As part of Schull Community College’s Transition Year programme, some students travel to the Netherlands on a Dutch Exchange. This exchange is part of Europe Week in the Dutch school Het Baarnsch Lyceum. It is a great opportunity to meet students from other countries and work with them on European issues. Six nationalities are involved Dutch, Spanish, Bulgarian, French, Slovakian and Irish.

Students visit Amsterdam where they learn about the cultural and historical significance of the city. On a trip to The Hague, all students visit Europe House where they participate in a debate and get an insight into how the European Commission works.

Students are home hosted by their Dutch partners. This experience of Dutch culture is a valuable part of the exchange.

When the Dutch students pay a return visit to Schull their busy week includes sailing, a visit to out planetarium to learn about the night sky, a trip to Mizen Head visitors centre, céilí dancing and many more activities.
